"Incomprehensible!" "Line noise!" "WTF?!" Yup, sounds like somebody just ran across a regex. But are regexes - which can even be found in the works of Shakespeare - really so bad?
In this talk, I'll show you how, when used correctly, regexes can provide an elegant solution to text processing problems that would otherwise take many lines quite tricky code.
I'll also talk about the limitations of regexes, the problems that you should not be trying to solve with regexes alone, and how throwing in a little higher order programming can get us to a clean solution to the problem at hand.
About the speaker:
Jonathan Worthington grew up in the world of Perl programming and these days is one of the lead developers of the Rakudo Perl 6 compiler. In his other life, he's a .Net developer and a big fan of the multi-paradigm programming opportunities that the latest versions of C# enable.
Agenda:
17.15-18.00: Food
18.00-19.20: Jonathan talks about regex
19.20-19.40: Pause
19.40-20.30: Open for suggestions, perhaps we talk about .NET4?
